This fast-paced, engaging 3-day course for both professional dog walkers and those interested in a career switch to dog walking delivers the most comprehensive education available to today’s modern dog walker. You’ll study canine learning theory, body language, aggression, and basic training. You’ll learn why dogs make the choices they do—and how you can influence those decisions to get the behaviour you want. You’ll learn how to recognize early, subtle warnings of trouble, and how to respond to avoid incidents and dog fights. You’ll learn canine first aid and emergency protocols for a wide range of situations. You’ll come away able to create plans to change or manage unwanted behaviour like leash pulling, leash reactivity, resource guarding, jumping, and many more “project” behaviours. And you’ll learn the most effective, ethical business practices to help you make a great living doing what you love.

Janice Gunn’s Positively Powerful Competition Obedience Workshop
March 7 & 8, 2020
During this two-day workshop you will learn how to actively engage your dog to want to be a willing participant when training and showing. Janice will demonstrate a variety of techniques including touch pad training, food chase game, impulse control, on off switches, her unique disc game, remote reward, target plate training, the value of platforms, how to get your dog’s focus and keep it, value transfer, proper play techniques, engagement, explain and discuss ways to use shaping for a stronger connection, are just some of the topics that will be covered.

Join Good As Gold owner Barbara Walmer and guest speakers for periodic seminars and workshops on a wide range of topics, such as puppy & adolescent development, competition obedience, Tellington Touch, Cooperative Care, animal learning theory, body language, and more.
Barbara and the Good As Gold staff share insights into canine cognition, training, and care with Calgary’s dedicated dog lovers. Topics run the gamut from canine learning theory to reading dog (and cat!) body language, Tellington Touch, cooperative care, understanding aggression, canine first aid, and more.
Lead trainer and experienced shelter manager Barbara Walmer is available to support animal shelters on both specific behaviour modification plans as well as behaviour program development in the areas of dog walking volunteer programs, creating training plans, and stress reduction and enrichment programs.
